Dr. Martin Luther King was a bright light for the African American community and a guide to leaders across the world. His philosophy of being nonviolent and protesting in a peaceful manner can be linked to his religion, which was Christianity. Dr. King believed that if we stuck to the Word of God during our struggle at the end we would see victory. Dr. King took to heart the following passages:
“You have heard that it was said ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth. But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well.” Matthew 5:38-40
Dr. King’s philosophy has taught me to be calm when I face my enemies. This philosophy helped to realize that no matter how much hate you receive from the world…stick with God’s sound and Holy Word and you will be able to rise above and walk in the world he envisioned. A world where I would be comfortable in my own skin and be the example of the type of black man he would have me to be; kind, courteous, well spoken and smart.
