Sheriff George T. Maier epitomizes “Serve and Protect,” because it has been his life’s ambition. Maier began his career in law enforcement as a patrol officer in 1981 but spent most of his career in the Ohio Highway Patrol, reaching the rank of District Commander. He has served as an assistant director of the Ohio Department of Safety, appointed as Stark County Sheriff when his predecessor fell ill and then was re-elected to the position. His job duties include managing a large, diverse professional staff, operating the Stark County Jail, providing security in the courts, overseeing the Stark County Park Rangers and serving as a Community Liaison. He enjoys working with the community and supporting its various activities. The cultural festivals create a great atmosphere and the togetherness of the community serves as a light that beckons residents and visitors alike, according to Sheriff Maier. It is this sense of community that has inspired him professionally to maintain the highest level of integrity when representing law enforcement; knowing that the community deserves nothing less.
